Why did my Taurus Man leave me for his ex?

I feel so hurt right now, as if I wasted 5 years of my life. It's a long distance relationship (I'm from Indiana and he's from California). He stopped talking to me for a week, and I was wondering what's up with him?

My deepest fear turned out to be true he started seeing someone else, and that someone else is his Scorpio ex-girlfriend. How could he tell me that I changed him, he loves me, and cares about me? It was so hard getting back on the plane from Long Beach back to Chicago. I cried and he cried the day of my flight. I had to go back home since my new semester of school was starting within 2 days.

That whole week was utter bliss with him. I never felt that way before. Now, 3 months later he drops this on me. I understand that it's hard on him, it's so very hard on me too. He told me that he was "vulnerable" and that's why he went back to her. I feel like a fool for giving my heart out. He told me he wants to be friends, but I don't know what to believe. What should I do?
